Morag, Thank you for your inspiring blogs. I have grown a lot of fruit and veg at home for years and still learning about things like layering. We are usually taught to space out things so we are wasting soil and growing space. Im having a hard time convincing my old fashioned father in law about growing things closer together and now on top of each other ha! You mentioned choko leaves. I never thought about eating those! My choko vine is very hard to tame at times so I will eat some rather than throw them away, altnough the snails absolutely love the leaves too (and my bees love the flowers on chokos). I just harvested and went mad on pickling my chokos for the first time so I have some all year. I'm one of those rare choko lovers so I have several dozen jars of them in my pantry. I would so love to live off grid as you do but I havent convinced my hubby to do that as yet so I do what I can to be self sufficient. Thank you.

Hi Tim, These plants are super abundant, and if you just pick what you need for that meal, then in my experience, it's hardly noticeable what you harvest - a few leaves. If it's a smaller plant - I'd recommend taking a bit from here, and a bit from there - not always the same spot, and if you have multiple plants, not from the same one each time. :-)
