LIVING MORE SIMPLY TO CREATE A RICHER WAY OF LIFE

I live in a permaculture ecovillage surrounded by my permaculture gardens and have for the past 25 years been living this way of life – simply but abundantly with permaculture at the core of my livelihood. I absolutely love it, and I also see it as a way of extending the practice of permaculture and ecological thinking, and more fully embodying earth care and people care.

The main way I make a living with permaculture is through teaching permaculture (in many different ways) and secondly through design work (for individuals and groups). However one of the keys to making this work is simplifying needs and consumption.

We don’t spend much, so much of my work can be in the non-monetary economy. We have set up our life intentionally to be debt free, to have no water bills, very little energy bills, low food bills, no school fees – and to live connecting both in the monetary economy, but also greatly connecting with the sharing economy and gift economy.

I think redefining wealth through the richness and quality of connections to community and place is really important.
